The ENERMAX REVOLUTION III S is a 1000W Platinum-rated ATX 3.1 power supply with 80PLUS, Cybenetics and PPLP certifications, native 12V-2×6 support and a 13-year warranty — but is it worth the added investment over the REVOLUTION III we reviewed last year?

ENERMAX has expanded its power supply portfolio with a Platinum-rated update to the REVOLUTION III lineup, introducing the REVOLUTION III S ATX 3.1, which is the focus of this review. This new model is currently available exclusively in a 1000W capacity and comes in both black and white colour variants, allowing it to blend seamlessly with a wide range of PC build aesthetics.

Positioned several steps ahead of the standard REVOLUTION III we reviewed last year, the REVOLUTION III S builds upon the ATX 3.1 foundation with notable upgrades. This is the first PSU we will be testing for the past year with Platinum-level efficiency certifications from three different certifying bodies – 80PLUS, Cybenetics, and PPLP.



With its enhanced feature set and improved efficiency, the REVOLUTION III S 1000W carries an MSRP of US$179.99 or €159.99 for the black version, while the white model commands a US$10 or €10 premium. In return, ENERMAX backs the unit with an extended 13-year warranty, exceeding the typical 10-year coverage offered by most Platinum-rated competitors. Does the REVOLUTION III S 1000W justify the additional investment? Let’s find out in this review.

Packaging, Bundle, and Cables

ENERMAX continues with its commitment in using eco-friendly packaging materials.


The REVOLUTION III S packaging is constructed from recycled paper and printed using vegetable oil-based inks, making it non-toxic and more environmentally friendly. Despite this, the entire box is still sealed and wrapped in plastic to ensure the power supply is adequately protected from moisture and external elements during transit.


More printed information can be found at the back such as the number of included cables and essential specifications.


A yellow sticker is used to indicate the colour model of the PSU inside.


The PSU is protected by foam inserts, cables are packed in a sealed plastic bag.


ENERMAX includes a manual for the PSU which has a 12V-2×6 cable installation guide that tells the user how to properly install the cable and the recommend bend angle.


The REVOLUTION III S is bundled with only the essential accessories, keeping the overall package straightforward. Unlike the standard REVOLUTION III, this model does not include a set of cable combs.

The power supply itself is wrapped in protective plastic, while the modular cables are supplied separately in a sealed bag. Also included in the box are the user manual, a standard power cord, mounting screws, and a small selection of cable ties for basic cable management.

Cables
The REVOLUTION III S 1000W comes with the same upgraded embossed cables that came with the REVOLUTION III PSUs.


The REVOLUTION III S includes a native 600W 12V-2×6 connector designed to power the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards. For compatibility with previous-generation GPUs, the power supply also provides four PCIe 8-pin (6+2) connectors.

In addition, ENERMAX includes a hybrid cable that connects to the PSU’s 12V-2×6 output and splits into two PCIe 8-pin (6+2) connectors, offering added flexibility when powering graphics cards that do not require a native 12V-2×6 interface.


We will be able to test voltages in the 12V-2×6 rail with this cable.


Here’s a closer look at the 12V-2×6 cable rated for 600W – this should be able to support high-end NVIDIA RTX graphics cards up to the RTX 5090.


ENERMAX’s embossed cables stand out as some of the best-looking non-sleeved cables we have encountered to date. The individually separated cable strands help create the appearance of sleeved cables, resulting in a cleaner and more premium look once installed.

The REVOLUTION III S does not have any pigtail (or daisy-chain) EPS or PCIe connectors.

Closer Look (External)



The REVOLUTION III S 1000W is available in black and white colours – we got the black model for this review.


The REVOLUTION III S shares a very similar exterior design with the REVOLUTION III, retaining the same fan grille styling as well as identical placement for the power switch and AC inlet. One of the more noticeable visual changes is the use of silvery-grey (platinum colour) printed labels and accents, which appear to distinguish the Platinum-rated model from its Gold-rated counterpart.


A printed label is positioned on the top of the power supply, displaying key information such as efficiency certifications, output specifications, and the unit’s serial number, along with other essential regulatory details.


The REVOLUTION III S features a fully modular cable interface with all connectors positioned on a single side of the unit, resulting in a cleaner and more organised appearance when this area is visible within a system build.

Closer Look (Internal)


ENERMAX sources its cooling fans for the REVOLUTION III S from Globe Fan, same with the REVOLUTION III.


The REVOLUTION III S uses the S1202512L model that’s only rated up to 2,000 RPM with a maximum airflow of 90.92 CFM in favour of lower noise level. The REVOLUTION III came equipped with the S1202512M rated up to 2,400 RPM that delivers higher maximum airflow but louder noise levels.


This PSU has a similar layout with the REVOLUTION III but uses different components. Noticeably, both uses a large heatsink for heat dissipation and the REVOLUTION III S uses a large red anodized aluminium heatsink.


The REVOLUTION III S 1000W utilises a single Japanese-made 105°C primary capacitor, specifically a Rubycon 420V 560µF MXE-series aluminium electrolytic capacitor. On the secondary side, ENERMAX continues with Rubycon components throughout, reinforcing the brand’s claim of using 100% Japanese capacitors across the entire power supply design.

Testing Methodology & Results

Testing
We are using an ElmorLabs PMD2 that monitors and measures voltage, current, and power flowing through the CPU, GPU and motherboard power cables.


Our testing methodology uses OCBase’s OCCT Enterprise Edition software for power loading and monitoring. Tweaking the OCCT Stability Test, we can set different power loads for the PSU easier rather than playing around with various software to achieve set power loads. All testing is conducted using the 230V residential power standard.


Methodology
Using the ElmorLabs PMD2, we have couple of testing points which will now include the 12V-2×6 connector given the 12V-2×6 to PCIe cable provided by the REVOLUTION III S 1000W. In PMD2, the 12V-2×6 connector is labelled as “HPWR”. The 12V-2×6 connector splits to two PCIe 8pin connectors which will power our RTX 3070 graphics card. The PSU also supplied two PCIe 8-pin connectors, one will power the RTX 4060 Ti. The other PCIe 8pin will remain plugged to the PMD2 will still read voltages despite not supplying power to any component. We will still get the +5V and +3.3V readings using PMD2.

The PMD2 cannot monitor the +12V on the SATA/MOLEX power cables. For that, we will still be using a multimeter to also monitor the voltages delivered to the SATA/MOLEX cables.

Power load will be at approximately 10% increments using the OCCT Stability Test running for 5 minutes – as much as our current testing setup allows which is currently 750W~800W with the following testing configuration below:

The recorded voltages represent the average readings taken during each 5-minute power-load run using the OCCT Stability Test.

The graphs below are readings during the 60%, 70%, and maximum load tests.


Our REVOLUTION III S 1000W sample demonstrated excellent +12V voltage regulation across all primary output rails, including the PCIe, native 12V-2×6, and EPS connectors, with deviations remaining comfortably below 1% across the tested load range. This level of control is particularly commendable and aligns with expectations for a Platinum-rated, ATX 3.1-compliant power supply.

The +12V output on the SATA/Molex rail exhibited slightly wider variance by comparison, though still within acceptable limits and well inside ATX specifications. Given that this rail typically powers lower-demand peripherals such as storage devices, controllers, and accessories, the observed behaviour is unlikely to have any practical impact on system stability or performance.


Voltage regulation on the ATX +5V rail exceeded the 1% mark and remained consistently below the nominal 5.0V level throughout testing. While this is less tight than the +12V rails, it remains within specification and is not unexpected, as modern platforms place far less electrical stress on the +5V rail compared to earlier system designs.

The strong voltage regulation observed on the +12V rails is particularly important, as these outputs directly supply power to the system’s most critical components — namely the CPU via the EPS connectors, and the graphics card via PCIe and 12V-2×6 interfaces. Tight regulation in these areas helps ensure stable operation under rapid load changes, reduces electrical stress on downstream components such as VRMs, and contributes to improved reliability and longevity, especially in high-performance systems with power-hungry CPUs and GPUs.

Acoustics
The REVOLUTION III S incorporates a semi-fanless cooling mode, where the internal fan remains inactive below approximately 60% load, provided the unit does not exceed its thermal threshold. According to ENERMAX, fan activation is also influenced by internal temperature, with the fan engaging at around 45°C, which is a relatively conservative trigger point. Compared to the standard REVOLUTION III, the REVOLUTION III S is also equipped with a quieter fan design.


Under higher system loads, overall noise output is dominated by the graphics card and CPU cooling solution rather than the power supply itself. The PSU carries a Cybenetics Standard++ noise rating, reflecting its restrained acoustic profile. Combined with the semi-passive cooling behaviour, the REVOLUTION III S delivers silent operation during low-load scenarios.


Conclusion


The ENERMAX REVOLUTION III S 1000W, priced at USD $179.99 for the black variant and $189.99 for the white, positions itself squarely in the middle of the Platinum-rated 1000W PSU market. Rather than chasing flashy extras, ENERMAX has focused on delivering a clean, no-frills design that covers the essentials well. With both black and white options available, the REVOLUTION III S integrates easily into a wide range of build themes without compromise.

Performance
Performance is exactly where it needs to be for a unit of this class. Voltage regulation remained stable and consistent throughout testing, particularly on the key +12V rails that supply power to the CPU and graphics cards. Overall power delivery is solid and dependable, while acoustics are equally well handled. Thanks to its semi-fanless operation, the PSU remains silent under light to moderate loads and stays unobtrusive even when system demand increases.

Value
The REVOLUTION III S 1000W is well suited to builders seeking reliable, efficient power at a sensible price point. The fully modular design and embossed cables may sound unassuming, but they are practical, tidy, and visually acceptable in most builds. Combined with native 12V-2×6 support for modern graphics cards, strong overall performance, and an impressive 13-year warranty, this PSU represents a sound long-term investment for both current and future systems.
