During their Computex 2018 Keynote Intel officially unveiled the upcoming CPU commemorating 40 years of the 8086 processor.
The rumours were true. At their Computex 2018 keynote this morning Intel announced a new limited edition CPU chosen to commemorate 40 years since the launch of their first 8086 processor. That CPU will be the Core i7-8086K Anniversary Edition.
Looking very much like a specially binned Core i7-8700K, the i7-8086K is an LGA1151 CPU based on Intel’s Coffee Lake architecture. It will feature six cores clocked at a base 4GHz and reach a maximum of 5GHz in Turbo mode, the first time this has been attained as a reference frequency at retail. It’s also equipped with 256kb L2 cache, and 12MB of shared L3 cache. The CPU will support hyperthreading for a total of twelve independent threads.

Only 8086 units of this Limited Edition CPU are being manufactured. It will be released on June 8th (at a price as-yet unspecified), alongside a global sweepstake where you can enter to win one of your own.
