AMD’s ‘Trinity’ APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), the successor to the Current A-Serie ‘Llano’ based APUs, has been getting into the news a fair bit lately and with an expected launch Q1 2012 it is not surprising to see some early benchmark slides. Making use of AMD’s next-gen Bulldozer cores codenamed ‘Piledriver’ and an improved GPU based on the VLIW4 stream processor architecture, Trinity should be hailing a modest improvement over Llano.
We see some slides of 3DMark Vantage, PCMark Vantage and a calculated CTP SP GFLOPs for parallel performance and then we see the gains of using dual graphics on the platform. All things considered overall gains are about 30% over Llano. Trinity will be for the FM2 socket which as we understand will not be backwards compatible with socket FM1.
Trinity sees an average of 32.6% performance increase in 3DMark Vantage.
An average of 13% increase in PCMark Vantage.
An average of 56.3% increase in GPGPU compute, taking advantage of the VLIW4 architecture.
The expected gains from using a discrete card in CrossfireX.
