The AMD camp is dropping bombshells as they introduces upcoming series of processors from high-performance datacentre processors to mobile APUs and consumer CPUs in between. As the competition with Intel rises due to the AMD Ryzen’s success, AMD unveils upcoming processors including the Ryzen Threadripper that feature more cores and higher performance. AMD also unveils its datacentre-brand platform which was previously known as “Naples” and now called the AMD Epyc processors. The Ryzen APU processors and Ryzen 3 release schedules have also been released.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper Processor
The Ryzen Threadripper is AMD’s upcoming high-performance consumer/commercial processor that features the x86 “Zen” core architecture. The Ryzen Threadripper is said to pack 16 cores and 32 threads and will be using a new platform that’s design for high-end desktop market. The new platform will feature expanded memory and I/O bandwidth. Watch AMD’s introduction video for the Ryzen Threadripper below. Official release is scheduled for summer 2017.
AMD Epyc Processors
The Epyc was previously codenamed “Naples” which is AMD’s new high-performance server processors designed for datacentres. It is also based on the x86 “Zen” architecture with a processing engine scaling up to 32 physical cores. AMD aims to market the Epyc processors as direct competitors for the single-socket and dual-socket datacentre builds. Single-socket supports 8 channels of memory while dual-socket server supports up to 32 DIMMs, 16 DDR4 memory channels capable of delivering up to 4 TB of memory capacity. Other AMD Processors
The Ryzen 3 processors are also coming soon and is scheduled for availability in Q3 2017. AMD’s consumer notebook processors are also upcoming with the Ryzen Mobile APUs codenamed “Raven Ridge”. It features 4 cores and 8 threads and are also based on the “Zen” architecture partnered with e high-performance “Vega” graphics processor. AMD claims the new Ryzen mobile APUs will deliver 50% increased CPU performance and 40% increased graphics performance compared to the previous generation AMD mobile processors. These are said to be available by second half of 2017.
