In the last week there has been positive signs that GPU pricing/availability may be set to stabilise which is great news! So, you may have your sights set on purchasing a new graphics card as part of an upgrade, if so then today’s review might be worth checking out.
On the test bench today is the Colorful iGame RTX 3070 Ti Advanced OC-V. The RTX 3070 Ti was released earlier this month and against the standard RTX 3070 it offers a boost in clock speeds, faster GDDR6X VRAM and a shift up in cuda/tensor cores.
The Advanced OC-V capitalises by taking the GPU boost clock up to 1830MHz and delivering an impressive triple fan cooler. Should this model be on the short list?

Closer Look
Advanced OC’s physical design is unlike most graphics cards on the market which typically opt for a black/grey theme. Instead, Colorful has opted for a unique colour scheme which combines silver, black and red. Further to this, the shroud is kitted out with RGB lighting which can be customized using the included software – see below for the effect.
The shroud itself may be plastic, but it still feels sturdy. This shroud sits over the cooling system which is comprised of three cooling fans (with 13 blades), and a double-heatsink with 5x 8mm copper heatpipes. Colorful has included their own zero decibel technology with this graphics card, meaning the fans will stop spinning under light load and thus reduce noise levels.
On the rear IO panel there are a total of four video outputs – 3x DisplayPort 1.4 and 1x HDMI 2.1. We’d have liked to see another HDMI port on this section of the card, but what is provided should serve most gamers.
Colorful has decided to include the OC switch at the back of the card which we feel is an excellent decision. Most manufacturers include a switch which is positioned on the side of the card, this can often be difficult to reach but using Colorful’s method means you don’t even need to go inside your computer case. The profiles on offer given two options – one places the GPU clock boost at 1770MHz, whereas the OC mode will shift the GPU clock boost up to 1830 MHz.
Advanced OC requires 2×8-pin PCIe from the PSU and it is recommended to have a 650W model for effectively powering this graphics card.
The lighting, as mentioned, can be controlled using Colorful’s software suite and allows animation effects and different colours to be applied. On the inner edge of the middle cooling fan, there is an RGB ring which provides an interesting effect when the fan spins – this is something which will add something completely different to what other cards offer and once again, we really like the inclusion of this feature.
Test Setup & Methodology
HOW WE TEST GRAPHICS CARDS
Testing a graphics card is an extremely lengthy process. We sometimes see reviews where a graphics card has been tested using out of date equipment, out of date games and even out of date drivers. While the latter can be excused due to the sheer amount of driver updates making a thorough review impossible we will however notify the reader when we have used a different driver to the normal for example a pre-release driver. For the most part however we will always use the same hardware and latest drivers so this does certainly need to be taken into consideration when viewing our testing results. Each game and benchmark is tested times with the lowest and highest scores omitted out of the 5 results and the average then taken from the three remaining to give us our final result for each resolution and setting used.HARDWARE
In Q3 2020 we decided to move on from our Intel X99-based graphics card test system to embrace AMD Ryzen Gen3. The basis for this was quite simple, AMD’s platform is one of the most popular choices for gamers and by using such a configuration, we can hopefully showcase to our readership what they can expect. In the past we’ve used HEDT platforms and while this does indeed align itself to the bleeding edge for a computer system, it doesn’t reflect what most gamers will be using.With NVIDIA and AMD now using PCIe 4.0 for their bus interface on graphics cards, AMD Ryzen Gen3 and the X570 chipset are well-equipped to test appropriately.

Let’s see how today’s graphics card performed…
Power, Temperatures, Acoustics
To test for power consumption, we take a measurement from the plug socket. It is important to note that the figures below represent total system power use and not just the GPU. The CPU was always in a fixed state so did not affect the additional power load when the GPU was placed under 100% load using AIDA64 stability test (GPU Only) which was ran for 20 minutes at which point a load reading was taken. Idle readings were taken 5 minutes after system boot to ensure any background services and applications had loaded.

TEMPERATURE
To test temperatures we measured idle temperatures after booting windows, letting all applications finish loading and ran a few benchmarks. Once the benchmarks were complete we left the card to reach a cooling plateau where we then took the idle temperatures. For the load tests we set Unigine SuperPosition running in game mode continuously for ~30 minutes and recorded the peak/maximum GPU temperature.
ACOUSTICS
For the purpose of testing audio levels we have the NDI KC-3300 sound level meter. During the temperature recording above, while in Unigine SuperPosition gamemode we monitored the audio and the results are found below. All graphics cards are tested in their out of the box state (auto).

Overall Performance
Here we take a look at the overall performance of the graphics card. This figure is determined by finding the average FPS across all of the settings used in a particular benchmark(game) to give us an overall value.
Value For Money
We make a simple calculation for this set of results. For each game we add all of the resulting FPS totals together and then divide by the four sets to give us an overall performance figure. While the figures alone do not give you an accurate picture of how the card will perform in any given scenario, they do tell you, when averaged, which GPU is the more capable across all of the benchmarks and settings tested.
Please note: we’ve used GBP for currency but since this is relative – regardless of which currency you use, this will give you a good indication of value for money.
DLSS Analysis: 3DMark DLSS
Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) is an NVIDIA RTX technology that uses the power of deep learning and AI to improve game performance while maintaining visual quality.
Ray Tracing Analysis: Control
Control is an action-adventure video game title which has the ability to take advantage of real-time ray tracing. For this test we ran the game in 1440p with Ultra Detail set. Under the settings we enable Ray Tracingand assign the preset as “High”. Below are the results with RT On and RT Off.
Conclusion
It won’t come as any surprise that the RTX 3070 Ti slots in between the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080, Afterall it’s designed to fill such a gap. But is the introduction of the Ti really necessary?
Under the shroud the Ti carries the same GPU and 8GB VRAM capacity as the RTX 3070, but there are some subtle differences where it matters. Clock speeds on the Ti are bumped up, we get GDDR6X which has greater bandwidth and there are more cuda/tensor cores. All of these improvements allow the Ti to improve on the vanilla 3070 and step ever so closely to the performance of the RTX 3080.
Colorful has done an exceptional job on the design of their Advanced OC-V, it most certainly stands out from the crowd with a distinctive shroud which we love. It carves out its own identity with the lovely silver tone and eye-catching RGB lighting. If you have the ability to rotate this graphics card within your case – the top-side will be a delight to have showcased.
A factory overclock has been applied to this variant of the RTX 3070 Ti, taking the Core Clock Boost from 1770MHz to 1830MHz, which isn’t too shabby at all. Accessing this overclock is simple as there is a switch on the video out panel of the GPU. This overclock assists in providing better performance in-game but this will obviously affect the thermals, but, thankfully Colorful has implemented a decent triple-fan cooling solution which not only tackles the temperatures very well, but it does so without needing exceptionally high RPM from those fans – resulting is a low-noise solution.
Obtaining this graphics card will be one of the challenges you’ll have to encounter – and we aren’t necessarily speaking about the global GPU stock shortage. Colorful aren’t as widely availability as other GPU partners, so you may not be able to obtain the Advanced OC-V in your region. The brand is however getting a stronger name for themselves and we’re hopeful they’ll be entering other countries in the not too distance future.
Colorful’s iGame RTX 3070 Ti Advanced OC-V has all the makings for a superb graphics card. We love the design choices and the performance on offer.
