In an interview with VentureBeat Cevat Yerli has stated that Crysis 3 will be the new benchmark for PC gaming for at least the next 2 years. This crown was placed on the original Crysis which, as we all know, turned PC’s into mush!
Crysis 3 will feature wonders such as swaying elephant grass, piercing beams of sunlight, water with true reflections, and a host of other special effects that make the game more immersive.
Yerli also states that he is not impressed with the competition, namely Unreal Engine 4 from Epic.
What is most interesting is the notion that this game is being created for PC’s first and then ported to console’s which is the exact opposite to Crytek’s approach with Crysis 2. This is evident by the PC specific graphics options and also the statement below from the interview in the source.
We finalized the engine, yeah. That’s what’s happened. We optimized the engine in the last few weeks. What you see here is very fresh code. The code is very optimized. We’re stretching more out of the Xbox and the PlayStation, but the PC is the one that really shines. I’m very happy with where we are on the console platforms, but our goal is to be a DX11-only game. We want to push the PC forward.
Is this just marketing hype or will they actually follow through with this? PC gamers have every reason to be cautious with many developers promising a great experience on PC but not delivering. I guess we will have to wait until mid February to find out.
