EasySMX is a relative newcomer to the gaming market, but with them driving focus towards making affordable gaming products, they are quickly becoming quite popular in the budget gaming scene. Today we’ll be testing out their EG-C3071W gaming controller and putting it through its paces.
The EG-C3071W utilises a 600mAh internal Li-ion battery combined with asymmetrical motors and nonlinear triggers. The controllers’ layout has been designed to be as ergonomic as possible, while still being intuitive to use, it also makes use of the 2.4GHz wireless bandwidth to provide up to 10M of range. The EG-C3071W also has broad compatibility and will work with Android mobile devices as well as on console and PC. So could this make it the perfect one-stop solution for all your gaming needs?

Packaging & First Look
The EasySMX EG-C3071W comes in a simplistic Black box with the EasySMX logo in the centre. In the bottom right-hand corner there is some text denoting that this a game controller.
Inside the box, there is the controller as well as a micro USB charging cable, a wireless receiver and the manual.
At first glance, the EG-C3071W controller looks like a blend between an Xbox and Playstation controller. The analogue sticks are set up similar to a PS4 controller and the main body is more akin to an Xbox pad. We have the Black version on test today but the EG-C3071W also comes in White.
Closer Look
The front of the controller is quite monochromatic with the only standout colour being the contrasting Grey on the thumbsticks. In the middle is the home button with the D-pad being located to the left and EasySMX logo right above. There are two circular buttons that act as the start button and also select. The X, A, B, Y buttons are also fully Black and finally, there is a small strip of LEDs at the bottom.
At the top of the EG-C3071W, there is a micro USB charging port in the centre with the RT, RB, LT and LB buttons in their rightful places.
The back of the controller has no major design nor any control features. It does, however, feature the serial number, EasySMX branding and lists all the compatible products that work with the EG-C3071W.
The dual thumbsticks are domed and coated with a soft, smooth rubberised coating.
The X, A, B, Y buttons feature text which is a non-standard font, and the D-pad is marked with directional arrows.
The LED strip at the bottom serves the role of informing you when the controller is connected and also it displays what the controller has connected to. For example, if the controller was connected to PC, the second LED would be illuminated.
Performance Testing
Setup and Observations
Performing the initial setup for PC is quite straightforward. You’ll need a spare USB port and the included wireless receiver. To begin setup you insert the receiver into an empty USB port and press the home button on the controller, the controller should then auto connect to the adapter. If the connection has been successful, the second LED should be illuminated. Connecting to mobile is a little different, you’ll require a smartphone that has OTG support and an OTG adapter. If your phone has OTG support, this could need enabling before using the controller. So be sure to check OTG support is enabled before attempting to pair the controller. You may also need to purchase an OTG adapter as there is not one included in the box. Once you have an OTG adapter and OTG support enabled, connecting the controller is as simple as placing the receiver into the OTG adapter and pressing the home button on the controller. The controller should then auto connect and if successful, LED 2 and 3 should be illuminated.
One slight omission is Bluetooth. We understand that this would increase the cost for the manufacturer and in turn affect the end consumer. However, this additional connectivity would allow the controller to be used with a wider variety of Bluetooth enabled products.
In hand, the EG-C3071W feels quite familiar, especially if you’ve used a modern console controller. The EG-C3071W is quite balanced and weighs just 180g. The EG-C3071W feels quite comfortable, and EasySMX has done a good job at creating an ergonomic form factor. The thumbsticks and button layout does take a bit getting used to as it isn’t an exact match to either a PlayStation or Xbox controller. The left and right triggers and bumpers are nicely positioned but again take some time to adjust to. After a few hours use though, it did start to feel quite natural and comfortable to use.
Performance
Gaming performance is a bit of a mixed bag. If your game library consists of mainly FPS shooters and competitive style games, then the EG-C3071W is not the ideal choice. The performance for these types of games is not quite up to par as it feels a little bit too sluggish. This is in part to do with the triggers and also the slight input delay. The triggers have a really long maximum travel distance while also feeling too softly sprung and not that quick to bounce back to repeat the action. The activation point of the trigger is set fairly early on – which is a plus, and it means you don’t need to fully compress it in order to activate the mechanism. However, even with this feature, we still feel that the triggers aren’t as responsive as some other controllers. The X, A, B, Y buttons do fair a bit better and are generally more responsive. The thumbsticks are also a touch lethargic, but this can be easily remedied by tweaking the aim sensitivity in game. The input delay is more noticeable for shooters as when you press the trigger or move the thumbsticks it does have a small delay. This is due to the wireless nature of the connectivity.
It isn’t all bad though as if you play titles that are more casual like solo adventures or racing games then the controller does fair better. Games like Grid 2, Asphalt 8, Rise of the Tomb Raider and the Batman Arkham series were entertaining to play as they don’t require as much quick movement or target tracking. Tomb Raider does involve some hitting of moving targets, but these are nowhere near as fast paced as they are in games like CSGO. The issues with the triggers mentioned in the paragraph above don’t seem to impact casual games as heavily and in some cases actually helped the overall experience. For racing titles, you can partially press the trigger to maintain a slower pace or even do some light breaking when heavier breaking is not needed. This is great as you can use the force of your press, to better control your speed.
Connectivity was good throughout testing, and we never saw the connection become unstable or even have the connection be fully dropped. The maximum range is up to 10m given a straight line of sight, but in all honesty, you’re unlikely to be using the controller at that range. Battery life on the EG-C3071W is quoted at up to 8 hours use. Our testing revealed that this is accurate as we achieved a bit over the 8 hours quoted. The EG-C3071W also adopts an auto shutoff feature when the controller isn’t being used, which is handy for preserving battery.
Conclusion
Does this controller fill all your gaming needs? Well, almost. The EG-C3071W is a good all-around controller that works on PC, some consoles and some mobiles, it offers a clean design that isn’t over the top and remains tastefully neutral. The overall construction is solid, minus the softly sprung triggers, but EasySMX has made up for that by making the controller comfortable to use for short or longer gaming sessions. Performance is varied depending on the types of games that you often play. For FPS shooters and competitive styles games the EG-C3071W just couldn’t quite keep pace and would likely dampen your gaming performance. If you are just a casual gamer that enjoys action adventures and racing games, then the EG-C3071W is ideal as that is where it finds its stride.
We do think that Bluetooth should have been included – even with a slight price hike, as it would have broadened the range of products that the EG-C3071W is compatible with. Also if you are gaming on mobile, you may want to invest in a stand as the controller has no way of holding your phone while gaming.
The EG-C3071W may not be the go-to choice for hardcore gamers or gaming enthusiasts, but if you just enjoy playing games casually on your PC or mobile, then this controller will allow you to do just that.
