The FSP MEGA Series is the brand’s top-of-the-line power supply units. This year, FSP added the gold-rated MEGA Series lineup with the FSP MEGA GM – available in 1200W, 1000W, and 850W variants which aim to meet the needs of mainstream gamers and workstation users such as content creators.
The MEGA Series is FSP’s top-of-the-line power supply line-up dubbed the “Ultimate Performance”. Currently, the MEGA Series consists of the MEGA TI that comes with Platinum-level efficiency and the MEGA GM with Gold-level efficiency.
This review focuses on the FSP MEGA GM 1000W model which is the ideal variant for most mainstream gamers and workstation users with mid- to high-end configurations – equipped with the latest NVIDIA RTX graphics cards that require 12V-2×6 connectors.
FSP’s ATX 3.1 PSU Lineup
FPS’s ATX 3.1 power supply lineup are the MEGA, VITA, ADVAN, and VIC Series along with a couple of upgraded Hydro Series units but the four aforementioned series appear to be the lineup moving forward – replacing the Hydro Series. FSP’s current lineup is as follows below.

The FSP MEGA GM 1000W measures 10mm longer than the FSP VITA GM 1000W power supply unit. On the following pages, we will take a closer look at the PSU’s construction to better understand the reason behind its slightly increased length.
Packaging, Bundle, and Cables
The MEGA GM 1000W arrives in a relatively large retail box finished with full-colour graphics and a plastic carry handle. The packaging presentation reflects the unit’s premium positioning and pricing within FSP’s power supply lineup.
FSP places greater emphasis on eco-friendly packaging with the MEGA GM Series. The MEGA GM 1000W package contains two internal boxes, with the accessory box featuring printed text that highlights the company’s sustainability initiative:

We also observed this eco-friendly packaging approach when reviewing the FSP VITA GM 1000W last year, which remains the PSU model with the least amount of plastic packaging among all the power supplies we have reviewed over the past two years.
Inside the two boxes are the bundled contents which include the power supply unit, a set of modular cables, a power cord, a small accessory pack containing four thumbscrews, Velcro straps, cable combs, and a 24-pin jumper, along with a printed manual. FSP also includes a storage bag that can be used to keep unused cables and accessories organised.
Reading the manual, FSP prescribes the recommended length in bending the 12V-2×6 cable which is 3-5 CM from the socket whether the PSU socket or the graphics card socket.
Cables and Accessories
The FSP MEGA GM 1000W comes with a pack of transparent cable combs which covers the 24-pin cables, EPS and PCIE cables, SATA/MOLEX cables and the 12V-2×6 cable.
The PSU also comes with thumbscrews and Velcro straps for cable management – instead of cable ties. FSP also included a jumper that users can use to test the PSU’s function before installation. Simply plug the jumper into the 24-pin ATX cable, plug the power cord and turn on the PSU to test function.
The MEGA GM 1000W does not have pigtail connectors, all the EPS and ATX cables use a dedicated cable with a single connector as expected from a premium-grade PSU.
The MEGA GM 1000W does come with a 600w 12V-2×6 cable although it does not have markings on the cable. This design choice is likely to minimize any visible marking for aesthetics.

As expected from a premium power supply, the MEGA GM 1000W does not use pigtail connectors. In our previous reviews of the bronze-rated SAMA B850 and MONTECH BETA2 850W, we observed voltage droop associated with shared cable designs. With the MEGA GM 1000W, users can populate PCIe and EPS connectors using dedicated cables, helping ensure more stable power delivery under load.
Closer Look (External)
The FSP MEGA GM Series adopts a fan grille design similar to the FSP MEGA TI Series, featuring a silver-coloured vent plate paired with a two-piece shroud construction, reinforcing its premium design approach.
The rear of the FSP MEGA GM has two switches – the switch and the eco semi-fanless mode switch which is turned off by default.
The visible side of the PSU features minimal branding, limited to a small print of the brand and series name, along with a discreet circular sticker that serves as the warranty seal.
The top panel features a large label containing essential information about the PSU, including output specifications, certifications, the serial number, and other regulatory details.
The MEGA GM Series features a fully modular cable design. While some users may have reservations about the connector layout, particularly the positioning of the locking mechanism, FSP’s implementation on the MEGA GM places the clips on the more accessible side of the PSU, making cable installation and removal straightforward.
In scenarios where troubleshooting requires disconnecting cables from the PSU, this design proves particularly practical. The connectors remain easily accessible, unlike some layouts where the locking tabs are positioned along a single edge— such as the COUGAR GLE Series PSUs— or placed in close proximity to one another, as seen on the be quiet! Pure Power 13M, which can make cable removal more cumbersome.
FSP also implements this modular cable layout on the FSP VITA GM, which we have previously reviewed. This consistency across product lines highlights FSP’s experience in PSU design, with the connector layout carefully considered to balance accessibility and ease of use, particularly for cable management and maintenance.
Closer Look (Internal)
The FSP MEGA GM is a bit longer compared to the likes of the VITA GM at 150mm in length.In return, the MEGA GM is equipped with a larger 135mm cooling fan, compared to the 120mm fan used on the VITA GM. It utilises a Power Logic PLA13525S12M fan, the same model found in the MEGA TI Series, featuring a Hydro Dynamic Bearing design for improved durability and quieter operation.
The FSP MEGA GM boasts 105°C Japanese bulk capacitors, opting to use top-quality Japanese electrolytic capacitors for longer lifespan, improved reliability, and performance.
The unit’s primary capacitors are sourced from Rubycon, utilising two 450V, 105°C-rated capacitors—one from the MXK series rated at 330µF, and another from the MXH series rated at 470µF.
The secondary capacitors appear to be sourced from Nippon Chemi-Con, another well-renowned Japanese manufacturer known for producing high-quality and reliable capacitors commonly used in premium power supplies.
Testing Methodologies & Results
We will be using an ElmorLabs PMD2 that monitors and measures voltage, current, and power flowing through the CPU, GPU and motherboard power cables.Our testing methodology will now be using OCBase’s OCCT Enterprise Edition software for power loading and monitoring. Tweaking the OCCT Stability Test, we can set different power loads for the PSU easier rather than playing around with various software to achieve set power loads. All testing is conducted using the 230V residential power standard.
Methodology
The ElmorLabs PMD2 features several monitoring points which includes two 8-pin EPS connectors (EPS1 and EPS2), three +12V 8-pin PCIE (PCIE1, PCIE2, and PCI3), one 12V-2×6 connector (HPWR) and readings on the 24-pin which include +12V, +5, and +3.3. For the +12V output on the peripheral/molex cable, we will be using a multimeter.
Not all of the PCIE connectors are populated with a device thus have barely any load on them. Still, they are connector to the PMD2 device and is still monitored and recorded throughout the tests. The graphics cards are plugged into the corresponding connectors below.

While I have not given emphasis on how the PCIE connectors are populated in previous reviews, this appears to be relevant to this particular PSU when it comes to the load balancing the MEGA GM does with powered devices.
Like all the previous PSU reviews, power load will be at 10% increments using the OCCT Stability Test running for 5 minutes – as much as our current testing setup allows which is currently 750W~800W with the following testing configuration below:

Results
With our test configuration, system load peaked at 802W with an average of 770W during the maximum load test which is achieved by running CINEBENCH 2024 – CPU (Multi Core) stress test and OCCT’s Power – Stability Test simultaneously. We have observed a unique load balancing characteristic on the MEGA GM 1000 that’s unlike other PSUs we’ve tested.
Based on our results, the MEGA GM 1000 demonstrates tighter +12V regulation on loaded rails compared to unpopulated ones, as illustrated in the table and monitoring screenshot above where PCIE1 and PCIE2 carry no load. This indicates that the PSU’s regulation is optimised for active load conditions rather than idle outputs. Let’s discuss this further in the graphs below
Power Load Tests and Graphs
The graphs below show the 60% load and maximum load statistics. At two spikes at the beginning show the power spikes upon opening CINEBENCH 2024 then the OCCT software.
In all load scenarios, the MEGA GM’s +12V readings across all connectors remained above 12.00V, indicating very tight voltage regulation with a slight positive voltage bias. This is a favourable characteristic, as it promotes stable power delivery while compensating for cable and connector losses under load.
EPS readings at 60% and maximum load highlight the strength of the FSP MEGA GM 1000’s +12V rail, with its slight positive voltage bias ensuring levels never dropped below 12.00V even under heavy load. In comparison, we observed +12V readings falling below 12.00V on some connectors at loads above 50% on units such as the MONTECH BETA 2 850W and SAMA B850, both of which use pigtail EPS connectors, as well as the ENERMAX REVOLUTION III S 1000W despite utilising dedicated EPS cables per connector.
A similar trend is observed on the +12V rails supplying the PCIe and 12V-2×6 connectors, where voltages consistently remained above 12.00V. As noted earlier, loaded PCIe connectors exhibit tighter voltage regulation compared to those with little to no load — more apparent when separating results between connectors powering the graphics card and those connected only to the PMD2 for monitoring (graphs below). This behaviour reflects the PSU’s regulation tuning, where voltage is maintained more precisely under actual load conditions.
Overall, the MEGA GM 1000 delivers tight +12V regulation of less than or equal to 1.5% across EPS, PCIe, and 12V-2×6 connectors, ensuring stable power delivery to critical components such as the motherboard, CPU, and graphics card.
The positive voltage bias is also evident on the +5V and +3.3V rails across all load scenarios. The only rail showing slightly looser regulation is the +12V line on the MOLEX/SATA cables, with variance of around 2%. This is not unusual, as these peripheral cables are typically lower priority in PSU design and often use thinner wires, longer cable runs, and fewer sense points compared to EPS and PCIe cables. As a result, they are more susceptible to minor voltage drop and less aggressive regulation tuning, especially since they do not power highly sensitive or high-current components.
Acoustics
The FSP MEGA GM 1000 features an Eco semi-fanless mode, controlled via a switch at the rear of the PSU, allowing users to enable or disable passive operation. When enabled, the unit remains silent under low loads, with fan activation governed by internal temperature. In cooler environments, this allows the PSU to operate passively for extended periods.
Under higher loads, the Power Logic PLA13525S12M 135mm fan remains notably quiet. During our maximum load testing, noise measurements taken near the PSU were approximately 5 dBA lower than readings recorded near the CPU cooler and graphics card. For reference, ambient noise in our test environment measured 45 dBA with the system powered off, indicating that the PSU contributes minimally to overall system noise even under heavy load.
Lastly, there was no coil whine observed from our sample unit throughout the testing and actual usage.
Conclusion
The FSP MEGA GM 1000, priced at $199.99, is positioned towards enthusiasts seeking consistently stable power delivery alongside premium features not typically found on lower-tier units. It is backed by a 10-year warranty, aligning with the standard offered by leading brands for Gold-rated power supplies. Below, we break down its performance and value across several key areas.
Design and Aesthetics
We did ask FSP about its decision to use embossed cables rather than sleeved ones, which are often expected at the premium tier. Embossed cables offer greater flexibility, as they do not include the additional outer sleeving layer, making them easier to route during installation. This approach also aligns with the growing trend of enthusiasts opting for third-party cable extensions, such as the LIAN LI Strimer ARGB series, for visual customisation. Nevertheless, the PSU housing itself stands out, with the silver fan grille adding a distinct, premium look that sets it apart from more conventional designs. The inclusion of cable combs is also a welcome addition, aiding in cleaner cable management without the need for extra accessories.
One design aspect worth highlighting is the layout of the cable connectors. Compared to other PSUs we have tested, the outward-facing locking mechanisms make connecting and disconnecting cables more convenient. While a minor detail, it proves particularly useful during troubleshooting, especially when the PSU is installed inside a case.
Performance
The FSP MEGA GM 1000 delivered robust and consistent power throughout our testing, with all major rails (+12V, +5V, and +3.3V) exhibiting a slight positive voltage bias, remaining above their nominal values (e.g. +12V consistently above 12.00V with no observable droop under load). This reflects tight voltage regulation and deliberate tuning to maintain headroom, ensuring stable delivery even as system demand increases.
As discussed in testing and results, the +12V rails supplying critical components — EPS, PCIe, and 12V-2×6—demonstrated particularly strong regulation, staying within less than or equal to 1.5% variance under load. Interestingly, the PSU shows tighter regulation on actively loaded rails compared to unpopulated ones, indicating optimisation for real-world operating conditions rather than idle outputs. This behaviour, combined with the absence of pigtail connectors and the use of dedicated cables, contributes to reduced voltage drop and improved stability under high current draw.
While the +12V rail on MOLEX/SATA cables exhibited slightly looser regulation at around 2%, this is expected given their lower priority in design and lighter load requirements. Overall, the MEGA GM 1000’s performance highlights a well-engineered platform focused on maintaining stable, reliable power delivery across all load conditions.
Value
The FSP MEGA GM 1000 is well-positioned for enthusiasts seeking a premium-tier PSU without exceeding the $200 mark. A notable highlight is its Eco semi-fanless mode with a physical on/off switch — an uncommon feature with Gold-rated PSUs, and one typically reserved for higher-end Platinum units. Unlike some alternatives, such as the ENERMAX REVOLUTION III S 1000W and SAMA G1000 we’ve previously reviewed where the semi-fanless feature cannot be disabled, FSP provides users with full control adding practical value and flexibility.
The inclusion of a 10-year warranty aligns with expectations in this price segment, but FSP further enhances the package with useful extras such as cable combs, a cable storage bag, and a 24-pin jumper tester. These additions, while not essential, contribute to a more complete out-of-box experience. Overall, the MEGA GM 1000 offers a well-rounded feature set and bundle, making it a strong value proposition within its class.
