The practise of building a customised computer system from a selection of components is a daunting task for some users and having the space to accommodate a prebuilt system from a system integrator can also be a hinderance for others and this is where the All-in-One PC comes in.
It isn’t common to see an All-in-One PC, in fact, looking around there are very few to choose from. But today we’ll be taking a look at a highly capable machine from MSI dubbed the GAMING 27 6QE. GAMING 27 blends together a lineup of the very latest technologies which include Intel’s Skylake, NVIDIA’s GTX 970M, 16GB DDR4 and M.2 SSDs in Super RAID 4. All of this hardware sits behind a 27” display for a neat, minimalist design.

Benchmarks: Boot Time & Power Consumption
In our first test we observe how fast the boot into Windows 10 is by using a digital stopwatch. The power consumption is also an important observation which we report back via energy monitor socket while the system is fully loaded.
Benchmarks: Cinebench R15 & x264 HD
CINEBENCH can measure systems with up to 64 processor threads. This test scene contains approximately 2,000 objects which in turn contain more than 300,000 polygons in total, and uses sharp and blurred reflections, area lights, shadows, procedural shaders, antialiasing, and much more. The result is displayed in points (pts). The higher the number, the faster your processor is.

The MSI Gaming 27 uses the GTX 980M graphics delivery, in this section we test the latest gaming titles to see how effective the 3D capabilities are. We report on the average framerate using FRAPS.
Conclusion
This is the first time we’ve ventured into the world of All-in-One PCs and we’ve been mightily impressed by what Gaming 27 brings to the table. We’ve looked at gaming notebooks and mini-PCs but these products are a completely different ball-game altogether.
As a concept the All-in-One PC is a rather interesting one. While this type of product may not be for everyone, it does offer an alternative to either selecting a group of components and building a system or opting for a prebuilt solution from of the many etailers. The beauty with such a unit like Gaming 27 is that it will reside in the living room or office without taking up valuable space since everything is housed within the expanse of the display unit.
Delving inside Gaming 27 reveals a highly capable machine with an impressive lineup of components. At the heart of this system is the Intel Core i7-6700 – Intel’s latest Skylake architecture which as we’ve seen throughout the benchmarks, delivers brilliant compute/encoding performance. Combining this chip with the high-end NVIDIA GTX 980M will make light weight in any of the current blockbuster gaming titles. Applying the maximum detail preset in games at 1080p will supply a pleasing result with high frame rates.
Inside there is also a RAID 0 configuration with two M.2 SSDs; this maximises the bandwidth and provides astounding storage performance. The memory is also on-par with the rest of the configuration by giving 16GB DDR4 but what we especially like is that both these areas are versatile in that we can include more storage and greater amounts of memory.
An obvious omission with the bright and lively 27” display is 4K support. But given the fact that only ultra-high-end components can just about cope with 4K gaming, we can understand why MSI has decided to settle with 1080p – rather than struggle, it means that Gaming 27 can comfortably cater for the user while offering ultra-detail presets with all the trimmings, without compromising performance.
Arriving with a price-tag of £1999 GBP / $2700 USD, Gaming 27 is a considerable sum of money and it would really be unfair to take the components and compare to the desktop variety because the intended because of the intended use. This system focuses on convenience and is really a different beast altogether.
Boasting the very latest technology and compromising on little-to-nothing, the Gaming 27 6QE demonstrates how far All-in-One PCs have really come. This convenient unit packs in a solid lineup of components which translate to superb performance.
