More and more of us are now sat in front of a PC for prolonged periods, sometimes 10 hours a day; this can slowly take a toll on your lower back or neck or even cause RSI from being incorrectly aligned while typing or gaming. noblechairs are relatively new to the field, being founded in 2015, but they’ve already made quite a splash amongst the online community with their EPIC series, featuring in many gaming streams.
Noblechairs claim to have listened to customers minor complaints from the EPIC and improved upon those areas with the ICON, namely the depth of cushioning used on the base and back, as well as a stronger base and steel construction, with a huge weight limit of 180KG (28 Stone). The styling has also changed, moving away from a “racing bucket seat” style, to something more elegant and stylish, altering the back support to allow for broader shoulders, while still providing the support you need and removing the harness holes.

Packaging & Included Parts
The noblechairs ICON arrives in a large, triple-layered, corrugated box, measuring 870mm x 700mm x 380mm and weighing in at 32KG; this may be considered a one man affair from any bloke wishing to show off, though we would recommend this as a two-man-lift. The internal packaging is excellent, with reinforced corners and multiple layers of foam and bubble wrap. Each substantial part is individually wrapped in branded noblechairs packaging, along with ample foam layering between components. The chair arrived in perfect condition, so absolutely no complaints can be made regarding the packaging.
Upon opening the backrest, we can see that lovely stitching, using a thick gauge of thread and breathable fabric. noblechairs have used that diamond stitching in the contact area to further optimise breathability. The noblechairs logo is embossed into the PU leather at the top of the headrest area, along with a noble badge in the back piece.
The seat follows the same design, again with that thick stitching and two “4D armrests” – adjustable in 4 different ways. The height can be adjusted, along with the width between each armrest, the distance from the back of the chair and can be toed in/out.
On the underside, you can see that solid steel construction and heavy duty clips holding all of the fabrics in place. The armrests also feature roughly an extra 25mm of adjustability by undoing those 3 Allen-key bolts.
Included Parts (Continued):
Included within is the gas-lift mechanism, capable of supporting 180KG, 5 nylon/polyurethane castor wheels, suitable for hard and soft floors, a pack containing a 6mm Allen-key and Phillips screwdriver along with 3x screws and 5x Allen-key bolts, which is actually 1 more of each than is actually required. There are also some plastic covers to hide certain sections and two handles to facilitate the adjustment of the rocking mechanism and height of the chair.
The 5 prong base is constructed from a solid piece of aluminium, painted incredibly well and feeling reassuringly premium. This should have no issues handling 180KG.
Fixing onto the underside of the seat is the rocking mechanism, which also controls the height of the chair, the resistance of the rocking mechanism and an ability to lock it off entirely. Noblechairs claim to have modified this since the EPIC series, improving reliability and strength.
Aiding the comfort and adjustability of the ICON, two cushions have been included, one for lumbar support and one for the neck/head, with an elasticated fabric band to hold it in place. The lumbar support doesn’t have any way of holding it in place. The cushions are made from soft fabric and cushioning.
Finished Look
The building process of the ICON was incredibly simple, requiring only a Phillips screwdriver and a 6mm Allen-key (a basic version of these tools are provided.)
Build time was around 10 minutes, though make sure to leave yourself plenty of room to move around. The instruction manual was handy, though noblechairs have designed their parts in such a way that it will be entirely unnecessary for anyone competent with building furniture.
The only stumbling block was connecting the backrest, which would have been easier if a second person was recruited to help.
Once you’re finished wrestling the back into place, and put on all of the finishing touches, we were certainly impressed by the overall look – this chair would match any office environment. Shamrock was also impressed.
Something we’d like to see on this chair would be some screw caps, to fill in any gaps in the plastics – this would add a touch of elegance, instead of the ugly silver screw-heads on show.
The armrests feel reasonably solid, with a small amount of movement, though this can be excused due to the 4 direction adjustability; they also feel much more solid than the Vertagear SL4000 we tested. The top of the armrests features a soft polyurethane top layer, providing decent comfort.
Conclusion
The noblechairs ICON has certainly impressed us here at Vortez, offering incredible build quality and a sleek and elegant look. The ICON is bound to last the test of time and is more than comfortable enough to use for 10+ hours a day. The 2-year warranty offered by OverclockersUK is also good, compared to many 1 year offerings.The price may seem a little steep, available from Overclockers UK for £329.99, but the comfort more than makes up for that – the ability to adjust the height, the angle of the backrest from 90° to 135°, along with the 11° of motion from the rocking mechanism mean it’s possible to almost lie down entirely flat in the chair.
The only issue with the ICON is the lumbar support cushion – there’s no method of holding this in place, once a comfortable position is found. As soon as you stand up, or even lean forwards, the cushions needs to be readjusted.
The Ultimate award has been given due to its next-to-flawless performance, with the only minor issue being the lumbar support cushion. We’ve also awarded the Creative award due to the design, so many manufacturers offer the “racing chair” design, with some minor tweaks, but noblechairs have taken this back to the drawing board and offered a truly different look.
The ICON provides excellent support for the avid gamer or serious office worker while looking incredibly stylish and fashionable. You get what you pay for with the noblechairs ICON
