Bethesda’s Fallout 4 was one of the biggest games of 2015, and thanks to a robust modding scene continues to be a relevant title for gamers, developers and reviewers alike. Released today, the Vault 1080 mod for Fallout 4 from LightSpeed Studio adds a brief tale within a tale, but rarely will a mere mod boast the level of graphical polish on display; for you see, LightSpeed Studio is a development house that’s part of graphics hardware giant NVIDIA.
In tone, Vault 1080 returns to the eerie and claustrophobic feel of some other Vault mods, and seeks to tell its story within a compact one hour sitting. Its succinct tag-line is a simple question: ‘Do monsters deserve salvation?’; however it remains to be seen just what form this salvation would take in the world of Fallout.
The purpose of Vault 1080 is two-fold. The first and clearly most important is to entertain; after all no-one will pick up the mod if it doesn’t pique your interest in some fashion. The second is as a showcase for NVIDIA’s GameWorks graphical technology, a technology which already infuses Fallout 4’s base game but will find new focus within the mod.
The technologies which are part of Vault 1080 (and are already part of the base game) include Volumetric Lighting, God Rays, HBAO+ and FleX-powered Weapon Debris, and you can read more about them at NVIDIA’s pre-release primer blog published to coincide with Fallout 4’s Patch 1.3 release in February. Vault 1080 has the same PC hardware requirements as the base game, but turns the dial all the way up to 11 in their use.
