SAMA G1000 PSU Review

SAMA introduced its new P Series and G Series ATX 3.1 power supplies this year, offering 80PLUS Gold efficiency and a fully modular cable design. Today, we take a closer look at the G1000 to see how well it stacks up against more established PSU brands.

SAMA enters the competitive mid to high wattage PSU market with the introduction of the P Series and G Series ATX 3.1 PSUs this year. Launched back in August, the SAMA P Series and G Series power supply units features Platinum and Gold efficiency ratings, respectively. Both PSUs are designed for modern systems that require a 12V-2×6 connector.

SAMA has provided us one of their latest power supply units, the G1000 80PLUS Gold-rated ATX 3.1 PSU. It features a fully modular cable design, 80PLUS Gold efficiency rating and is available in black and white colours to match most gaming PC colour schemes.



Surprisingly, SAMA has submitted the G1000 to Cybenetics for evaluation, where it achieved a Cybenetics Platinum efficiency rating. The certification can be viewed on the Cybenetics website. As the certification is recent, it has not yet been reflected on the product packaging or on SAMA’s website, though the company intends to update both in the near future.

Priced at US$114.99/£99.99, the SAMA G1000 is among the affordable Gold-rated power supplies available today. It sits slightly above the MONTECH CENTURY II 1050 W, which retails for US$104.99 and of which we previously reviewed the 850W model. Even so, the G1000 remains considerably cheaper than comparable offerings from more established brands such as CORSAIR, Seasonic, FSP, Super Flower and others.

Packaging, Bundle and Cables




The SAMA G1000 arrives in a plain brown cardboard box, similar to the packaging used for the ENERMAX REVOLUTION III PSU we reviewed recently. While the material suggests a shift towards recycled cardboard, there is no clear indication that SAMA is pursuing any broader eco-friendly packaging initiative.


Specifications of the power supply is printed on the side as well as certifications the company acquired. The parent company, Guangzhuo Aojie Technology Co., Ltd, of SAMA’s information is also printed on this side.


SAMA did pack the PSU in a rather space-saving package with the bare essentials included. The PSU is wrapped in bubble wrap and protected by foam inserts.


All the cables are in a sealed plastic bag along with a C13 power cord, a set of screws, and a set of Velcro straps for cable management.

Cables


The SAMA G1000 comes with braided flat black cables that mimics the look and feel of sleeved cables.


The COUGAR GLE and ENERMAX REVOLUTION III use embossed flat black cables that present far better visually, with each cable separated to mimic the look of individually sleeved wires. In contrast, the SAMA G1000’s cables remain joined together, making it immediately apparent that they are not premium sleeved cables. Separating the wires creates a far more convincing illusion, one that could make onlookers pause and question whether the cabling is genuinely sleeved.

The SAMA G1000’s 8-pin (6+2) PCIe cables do not include pigtails or daisy chained connectors, meaning users will need to run two separate cables when powering graphics cards that require dual 8-pin inputs.

Closer Look (External)


The SAMA G1000 measures 150mm in length and sports a large intake grille. The model name “G1000” is printed on the side.



The front side of the PSU contains specifications and other information about the brand and product.



The power cord socket and power switch are positioned at the rear of the unit. The PSU relies on a digitally controlled cooling fan that offers semi-passive cooling for silent operation, but there is no switch or button to enable or disable the semi-passive fan mode.



The connectors are labelled properly to guide builders where to plug cables. At the bottom-right corner is a production date sticker that tells the user when the PSU was manufactured.

Closer Look (Internal)

The SAMA G1000 is designed by SAMA themselves which is quite surprising given that most of the popular brands do not do this and use a reputable ODM.



The SAMA G1000 is equipped with a single primary capacitor. Aluminium heatsinks are placed to assist in heat dissipation.



The SAMA G1000 PSU is equipped with a Rubycon 420 V 560 uF 105°C aluminium electrolytic capacitor as its primary component, while the remaining capacitors are sourced from Teapo, a well-regarded Taiwanese manufacturer. In summary, the SAMA G1000 combines a first-tier Japanese primary capacitor with second tier Taiwanese capacitors. Although it is not a fully Japanese capacitor design, the unit still meets both 80PLUS Gold and Cybenetics Platinum efficiency certification standards.



The G1000 is cooled by an RL4Z S1402512HH 140mm Fluid Dynamic Bearing fan. Although the fan uses a two-wire connection, the fan speed is controlled by the PSU’s temperature-based fan control module. This enables a semi-passive cooling mode in which the fan remains silent and idle during low loads and lower internal temperatures, activating only when additional cooling is required.



The G1000’s semi-passive cooling function cannot be deactivated as the PSU doesn’t have a switch to toggle this function on or off.

Testing Methodologies & Results

Testing
We will be using an ElmorLabs PMD2 that monitors and measures voltage, current, and power flowing through the CPU, GPU and motherboard power cables.



Our testing methodology will now be using OCBase’s OCCT Enterprise Edition software for power loading and monitoring. Tweaking the OCCT Stability Test, we can set different power loads for the PSU easier rather than playing around with various software to achieve set power loads. All testing is conducted using the 230V residential power standard.



We would like to thank Adrien Stevens at OCBase for providing us the software to improve our testing. OCCT is available in various versions including Personal, Pro, Enterprise and Enterprise+. Users can avail the Personal version for free. Learn more and download OCCT at OCbase.com and on Steam.


Methodology
Having more testing points with the ElmorLabs PMD2 – two 8-pin EPS connectors (EPS1 and EPS2), three +12V 8-pin PCIE (PCIE1, PCIE2, and PCI3), and readings on the 24-pin which include +12V, +5, and +3.3. We will be monitoring and recording the voltages and wattage on each of these power cables. The PMD2 cannot monitor the +12V on the SATA/MOLEX power cables. For that, we will still be using a multimeter to also monitor the voltages delivered to the SATA/MOLEX cables.

Power load will be at 10% increments using the OCCT Stability Test running for 5 minutes – as much as our current testing setup allows which is currently 750W~800W with the following testing configuration below:

Results
The recorded voltages represent the average readings taken during each 5-minute power-load run using the OCCT Stability Test.

The graphs above illustrate the 50%, 60%, and maximum workload tests using the OCCT Stability Test. While adjusting the settings, I inadvertently triggered the 60% load before the 50% load. This is reflected in the total power graph, where the first plateau sits at approximately 600W, followed by the 500W plateau.

The SAMA G1000 does have an impressive +12V voltage regulation which is all under 1.0%. However, the +5V and +3.3V aren’t as good having voltage regulation between 1~2%. Still impressive for a relatively affordable Gold-rated power supply unit.


Maximum Power Load – 5-minute Run Readings


The maximum power load our setup can pull is approximately 760W on PMD2 which is reading 800W on our power meter for the entire system.

Acoustics
The SAMA G1000 employs intelligent fan speed control, enabling fanless operation when temperatures remain below 55°C. As a result, the PSU runs at 0 dBA under light loads, with the fan beginning to spin at roughly 400W. During our OCCT Stability Test targeting a 40% power load, the sound meter registered 55 dBA — though this figure also includes noise from the CPU cooler and two graphics cards running close to 100% RPM. The SAMA G1000 did achieve Cybenetics Lambda A- noise level rating on 230V, Standard++ for 115V. See Cybenetics certification here.

Overall, the G1000 remains effectively silent at low loads, largely because the fan does not operate in this range. Personally, I prefer active cooling even at lighter workloads, but the G1000 does not offer a switch to toggle semi-passive mode on or off, unlike the Seasonic PRIME TX-1600 Noctua Edition’s hybrid cooling switch.

Conclusion

The SAMA G1000 delivers the core features expected of a modern PSU, offering a fully modular cable design and respectable Gold-rated efficiency. Although the unit has already earned its Cybenetics Platinum certification, this has yet to be reflected on the product page and packaging. Even so, the 80PLUS Gold and Cybenetics Platinum efficiency certifications reinforce its efficiency-focused design and overall build quality.

Voltage regulation and acoustics are both commendable, though the non-toggleable semi-passive cooling may disappoint users who prefer constant active cooling. The G1000 does use a first-tier Japanese brand primary capacitor. The embossed flat black cables are decent but ENERMAX and COUGAR did a better execution with their embossed black cables.

Value
The SAMA G1000 is currently on Black Friday sale on Amazon for $91.99 (down from $119.99) and on Amazon UK for £81.99 (down from £102.48), significantly improving its overall value. This discounted pricing makes it more competitive against options like the MONTECH CENTURY II 1050W at $104.90; however, at full MSRP, the G1000 would offer noticeably weaker value. It is also worth noting that the G1000 carries only a 5-year warranty, compared to the CENTURY II’s longer 10-year coverage.



The SAMA G1000 delivers solid essentials with its modular design, strong efficiency certifications, and good voltage regulation. However, users should be mindful of the semi-passive cooling that cannot be toggled off that may not suit everyone. Its discounted pricing makes it a compelling value, but at full MSRP and with only a 5-year warranty — it becomes far less competitive.
