While AMD’s Ryzen 3000-series may have a few teething issues (many of which are being resolved quickly) one aspect that has gone largely unreported has been cooler compatibility. The reason for that is simple: Socket AM4 continuity; effectively every cooling solution suitable for Ryzen 2000-series CPUs and 400-series motherboards would make the transition to the updated platform unaffected. Perhaps the only meaningful change has been the introduction of a 105W TDP CPU class (the Ryzen 9 3900X and upcoming 3950X), but most high quality desktop coolers are more than capable of dealing with CPUs falling within this power dissipation envelope.
Not everyone will be shifting a cooler their already familiar with to the new platform however. This will be the first AM4 build for many consumers, novice to enthusiast alike, and so a little bit of help in choosing the right cooler is always welcome. With this in mind Taiwan-based manufacturer Thermaltake have released a list of cooler recommendations from their bespoke, AIO and air solution ranges for each AMD 3rd Generation Ryzen CPU. The table, along with a reiteration that their entire Socket AM4 range is 3rd Gen Ryzen compatible, should ease some of the confusion that always comes with choosing such critical parts for a new PC setup.
Only a sub-set of Thermaltake’s broad cooler range is listed, but they will have you covered whether you’re planning on a conventional air cooler, AIO liquid cooler, or high-end bespoke water-cooling solution.
