Western Digital introduces two new NVMe solid-state drives for wide commercial application featuring WD 3D NAND flash – the Western Digital PC SN720 and Western Digital PC SN520 NVMe SSDs. These new WD NVMe offerings with NVMe client architecture aims to empower thin and light devices and 2-in-1s, and embedded PCs for smart home and personal data environments. The two new NVMe SSDs delivers exceptional performance with impressive power efficiency, large capacities and flexible form factors. It comes with a new NVMe SSD firmware and controller architecture that aims to maximize the benefits of 3D NAND.
Western Digital PC SN720
The PC SN720 sports WD’s in-house developed architecture, controller, and 3D NAND flash memory to deliver superb performance for today’s cutting-edge systems. It is perfect for high-intensity applications such as 4K/VR video editing while being suitable for a host of devices including ultra-thin and mobile PCs. It comes in capacities of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB and offering exceptional sequential read speeds of up to 3400MB/s and sequential writes of up to 2800MB/s. The WD PC SN720 comes in an M.2 2280 form factor and utilizes the NVMe Gen3x4 interface.
Western Digital PC SN520
The WD PC SN520 NVMe SSD, on the other hand, offers flexibility in terms of form factors with it available in single-sided M.2 2280, M.2 2242 and M.2 2230 to fit most forms of mobile computing today. It also benefits from 3D NAND to push the boundaries of performance and reliability with its low power and low latency specifications. It is available in capacities of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB with sequential read speeds of up to 1700MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 1400MB/s.
Western Digital has already begun sampling with select partners and customers for both NVMe SSDs to be seen powering the next-generation devices.
