It would be fair to say that the Pixart PWM3360 is one of the most advanced optical sensors that is publically available (the PWM3366 is exclusive to Logitech). Cougar have now implemented this sensor in the Revenger gaming mouse, which appears to be based on the 500M series mice already in their stable.
The Revenger comes with a refined premium finish on the surface and anti-slip grips on the sides. There are two lighting zones including the profile indicator on the side and the logo area at the rear. Other familiar features include onboard memory, Omron switches, a trigger button (as found on the 5xxM series mice) large side buttons and a subtle ergonomic shape.
Along with the Revenger, Cougar has sent along the Bunker Mouse Bungee too, Priced at £15/$20, it uses a patented vacuum to ensure a stable mounting to your desktop surface.

Packaging & First Look
This is theBunker vacuum mouse bungee. Bungees can help manage cables, and reduce any drag or resistance from the cable of your wired mouse.
The Cougar branding is easy to notice and the large image of the mouse is accompanied by relevant information about its features.
There is a preview window which can be opened up, allowing people to see the product inside. There is some additional information on the inside also.
At the back there is a diagram detailing the key points about the Revenger mouse, as well as the technical specifications listed in various languages.
Inside you will find a small manual containing information about the product and some Cougar stickers.
The Revenger mouse has a very similar shape to the 500M series mice, though the finished surface helps distinguish it a little. The 1.8m cable is supple/rubbery, though some may prefer it to be braided.
Closer Look
The shape of the Revenger isn’t quite ambidextrous and features subtle ergonomic shaping. It is on the longer side of mice at 135mm, but overall has nice proportions.
The front side view gives better insight into its arch, and ergonomics. The mouse wheel is exposed so the cable comes out from one side rather than the centre.
There are 3 indicator lights helping distinguish which DPI setting you are using. The forward and back side buttons are large and is flanked by a rubberised grip.
The rear side acts as another lighting zone, with the Cougar logo and an additional band underneath it.
The right side of the mouse has additional textured grip for additional comfort and stability.
The mouse wheel is large, with a rubber surface, behind it sits the trigger button that toggles the DPI mode on-the-fly.
Underneath the sensor is positioned centrally and is also at the centre of mass, meaning Cougar have intentionally balanced the weight of the mouse.
Software & Lighting
The Cougar UIX software can be downloaded from the product page and though is not required for operation of the Revenger mouse, it is recommended to access full features and customisations. You can customise and save three profiles onboard, and each profile can toggle between 3 DPI settings. There are controls including angle snap, lift of distance adjustment as well as various performance relevant settings. Each button on the mouse is programmable to which you can easily assign commands or custom macros. The macro recorder is fairly complex with a variety of options, though it doesn’t record the mouse side buttons or trigger, it does however record the main clicks and mouse wheel.
The lighting effect on the Revenger is vibrant and attractive and in its default colour cycle mode, you get a split tone appearance that makes the transition of colours look more interesting and fluid. There are static and breathing modes available too, but I quite liked the colour cycle.
Performance Testing
Setup, Design & ObservationsThe Revenger is what I would call an ideal weight at 110g, not super light, nor too heavy. The finished surface looks and feels fantastic in your hand and the subtle ergonomics ensures comfort for palm and claw grips. The mouse is light enough for finger tippers, but considering its size it may not be suited for it. Though this mouse is not ‘ambidextrous’, nor is it sold as such, I found that it felt pretty decent in my left hand and while it may not replace a truly ambidextrous design, I would say that it is certainly usable without any major problem.
The main clicks feel fantastic, much lighter than the heavy clicks experienced on the 500M, and the mouse wheel feels solid and has a smooth, yet tactile rotation. The side buttons also feel great to press, positioned perfectly for both palm and claw grips, likely a convenient by-product of their size.
The Bunker Bungee feels well built and once you position on your desk and press the vacuum lever down, it remains solid in place, not moving once. It is flexible enough to prevent any tugging or unexpected drag after some frantic movement. It isn’t quite the same feeling as a wireless mouse but nearly, it certainly does enhance the feeling of freedom on the mouse mat where sometimes you would sense the cable knocking into other things. We enjoyed using it, though it doesn’t seem like an essential thing. Though considering how inexpensive and versatile it is (as it can be used with most wired mice), the Bunker is something that could make a huge difference for some.
Performance
Setting the DPI to its maximum 12,000, we found the tracking to be a touch jittery, but is mostly under control. It tracked perfectly on black fabric mouse mat, glossy desk veneer, plain cardboard, glossy coloured magazine, white paper and pretty much everything else we threw at it. At more reasonable settings for gaming, the sensor performed flawlessly. Responsive, snappy and precise. Whether in a FPS like CS:GO or MOBA like DOTA2, the Revenger filled each session with confidence and almost intuitive accuracy.
Conclusion
It is no secret that the PWM3360 sensor is going to take a lot of ‘good’ existing mouse designs to that next level and the Revenger is no exception. It is comfortable, looks, feels fantastic and its performance is among the best currently out there. Though clearly based on the 500M design, there are improvements in the use of lighter, faster Omron switches. The ‘premium pro-gaming’ surface feels as awesome as it looks, while the lighting is that little bit different to help it stand out.
At £50/$60, it is priced very competitively as there are few mice rocking the Pixart PWM3360 in the same price range, many are still rocking the older 3310 optical sensor. Though this will gradually change with more mice being introduced with the 3360 mouse, the Revenger represents amazing value. The only real fault I could find with the mouse is that the Trigger button requires a lot of effort to use. Should you wish to use it as an actual macro or command, just pulling back on it can reduce your accuracy. It would be nice to have this replaced with a more conventional button of some kind. Other than that, and that ‘Revenger’ sounds like a cheesy action movie, this mouse is one well-rounded product that you should keep your eye out for!
The ‘Revenger’ may sound like a cheesy 80’s action movie, but don’t be fooled. It packs one of the most precise optical sensors available in a comfortable and attractive frame.
