Today we’re taking a look at the most recent introduction to the Sennheiser GSP product range, The GSP 670 Wireless Gaming Headset. This model is Sennheiser’s first foray into wireless gaming headsets, will they get everything right the first time around? Read our review to find out.

If you’re into your audio and possibly even if you’re not the name Sennheiser certainly needs no introduction however their first wireless gaming headset does. Introducing the GSP 670 Wireless Gaming Headset, billed by Sennheiser as “gaming for audiophiles” and it replaces the GSP 600 as the halo product of the GSP line.
The GSP 670 follows the same design focus as the GSP 600, meaning no RGB and while ditching the wires and attempting to make cable management that little bit easier however this doesn’t come without downsides, the headset is only compatible with PC & PS4 rather than all consoles however it also features Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity to enable you to connect to smart phones & tablets. While connected with Bluetooth you can get up to 20 hours battery life though this does reduce slightly to 16 hours if you opt to utilise the low-latency connection via the included USB dongle and if you do forget to charge the headset between sessions it is possible to simultaneously game & charge, or if you seriously hate wires but are in a rush, you can get 2 hours charge in a measly 7 minutes.
Sennheiser are also claiming that the GSP 670 features a best in class, broadcast-quality microphone which includes advanced noise-cancelling which Sennheiser have developed in house to ensure quality standards. The microphone is fitted on the end of a flexible boom arm and can be adjusted to suit your head shape, it also features flip to mute, meaning to mute the microphone you just lift the arm up.
We ask if Sennheiser have managed to get the audio quality we expect while they’ve introduced wireless functionality, read on to find out.

Packaging & First Look
On the front of the box we get a side profile shot of the headset, along with a bit of blurb advising what platforms the headset is compatible with and confirming that the headset carries a 2 year warranty.
The right hand side of the box we get a right side profile shot of the headset along which is below the model number which is printed onto the box in a luxurious foil.
On the back of the box we have a feature list in different languages as well as a shot of what the headset would look like if you took it apart.
The left side of the box, much like the right side grants us a look at the left side of the headset.
Lifting the lid off the box and the headset is secured in place by firm foam padding and at the bottom there is a cardboard box which contains all the accessories that come with the headset.
Taking the headset and accessories out of their respective boxes reveal that we get a full, unrestricted look at the headset. In terms of accessories that come with the headset you get a quickstart guide, along with a rubberised charging lead and a USB dongle.
Closer Look
Starting at the bottom of the headset on the left ear cup we have a fast charging USB port, along with the button to enable pairing. On the right ear cup there is a programmable smart button along with a wheel to control chat volume and the wheel on the side of the ear cup controls the game audio.
Taking a closer look at the ear cups and we can see they are leatherette edged and ergonomically shaped to aid with noise insulation & comfort. The inner part of the ear cup which makes contact with your ear is a softer suede-like material which is extremely comfy on your ear. Sennheisers logo also features on the material covering the driver.
On top of the headband there are 2 sliders which can be adjusted to adjust the pressure distribution to your tastes.
The inside of the headband features a plentiful amount of padding which helps ensure the headset stays comfortable for many of hours of gaming.
Finally we come to the “Bi-directional broadcast quality microphone”, it is housed on the end of a flexible boom arm to ensure it’s always in the optimum place for anyone’s head shape.
Software & Performance Testing
Design & Build Quality
Focusing on the design & build quality of the GSP 670, it is made from solid black plastic and features metal hinges connecting the ear cups to the headband, as mentioned previously these brackets can move along 2 axis’ which ensures a tight fit around the ear, contributing to noise insulation.
The headset features luxurious foam along the headband which we were greatly appreciative of while using the headset in our marathon gaming sessions. We also found the clamping pressure adjustments useful to ensure a pleasant fit. The ear cups, while tight fitting, do not choke the air from your ears meaning that they stay nice and dry which is no mean feat at all.
In terms of build quality, the headset feels as if it’s been made to military standards, this does show in the weight of the headset with it weighing in at 398 g, however with the choices Sennheiser have made at the design level mean that this weight is distributed well and is not a detriment to the headset in practice.
Audio Quality
The headset features dynamic, closed back drivers and the audio quality is superb. The response across the frequency spectrum is great, and our personal favourite feature here is the 7.1 playback option, when enabled it works perfectly and in games where situational audio is massive advantage this headset certainly gives you the lead in this area.
Even though this headset is mainly aimed at gaming we believe that the multimedia playback films & music etc, is also worth calling out usually headsets that carry the moniker “gaming” perform poorly in the music department which we’re happy to say is not the case with the GSP 670’s with punchy bass & mids along with crystal clear high end frequencies.
Microphone Performance
As usual we put the microphone through test which include Skype and Discord and in this case we also tested the quality via a mobile phone call.
We found that the microphone was easily positioned thanks to the flexible boom arm and that it performs extremely well in all of our tests. You can count on your voice being clear and understandable and that you’ll be able to find the right amount of noise cancellation to enable you to speak without having the clatter of your keyboard in the background. Software
On to Sennheiser’s Gaming suite software, when you first open the program you’re greeted by an introduction video to the GSP 670. Along the bottom of the software you have 3 tabs, Playback, Microphone and a general settings tab. The first tab features a 5 band EQ, you can adjust the frequencies at 80, 300, 1000, 3500 & 12000 Hz, there are also options to change the playback mode between 2.0 and 7.1 audio there is also the option to change the reverberation levels and they offer the feature of a sound test.
In the microphone tab there are options to enhance & modify your voice, you can change it between warm & clear, as well as no modification at all. You can mute the microphone as well as alter gain, side tone & noise gate levels, as well as adjust the level of noise cancellation.
In the 3rd and final tab there are options to update the headset & dongle firmware, there are also toggles for auto sleep, setup, block notifications and the option to have the software launch on startup. You can also alter the programmable button in this screen.

Conclusion
Overall we’re extremely happy with how the Sennheiser GSP670’s perform, and that Sennheiser have taken their great experience in creating well performing comfy headsets and applied it well to a wireless model.Features like the luxury ear cups along with the padded foam on the headband & adjustable pressure distribution mean that Sennheiser are going out of there way to make sure this top end headset can be made suitable for everyone. It’s nice to see that that these lengths are being gone to as many other manufacturers cut costs and end up putting some people off in this area.
There are only 2 negatives to mention, the first being that we’re disappointed that the charging cable is not of the braided variety, however the 16 hour battery life means that we’re scarcely reminded of it. The second negative would be the software, while the features it does contain perform admirably we would like to see the inclusion of something more than a 5 band eq to satisfy the tinkerer inside of us.
While the headset is on the heavier side of things the design choices that have been made mean that this is not a negative due to the measures that Sennheiser have gone through to ensure the headsets weight is distributed equally.
